Lid clamp for Dr. Oetker baking tray

An engineered replacement part that makes a damaged cake platter usable again.

Starting point

The cake platter itself was intact and had proven itself in everyday use. Only the original clamp was broken. A single component was enough to render the lid unusable.

The re-engineered clamp addresses exactly this point. It replaces the weakest element and restores the object’s original function. Less waste and a better product than before.

Result

The result is a simple spare part from the 3D printer. The clamp is pushed on, grips the edge of the lid and the tray, and reliably holds both together.

Instead of simply copying the original part one-to-one, the clamp was rethought and made more robust. The geometry is deliberately kept simple and serves only its task: to securely fix the lid to the baking tray.

No additional functions, no moving parts, just form, material, and purpose.

Background

The idea arose from the desire not to discard an otherwise good product. Often a small damaged component is enough to make an entire everyday object stop working properly.

The more substantial design reduces stress at the critical points. This makes the part less susceptible to repeated opening and closing.

The object shows that repair doesn't always have to be major or complex. Sometimes a precise decision in the right place is enough.

Notable insights

After several print tests to get the right dimensions, the material also had to be varied. In these tests, PETG delivered the best results.
