Mini Foosball Frog

A small play object that turns the classic jumping frog into a mini soccer ball and, with little mechanics, enables a simple tabletop game idea.

Starting point

The idea arose while playing with classic plastic jumping frogs. With a press of a finger, these small objects suddenly leap forward.

At the table, this quickly turned into a small soccer game. Two children sat facing each other and tried to shoot the jumping figures into an improvised goal.

The object combines the familiar spring mechanism of a jumping frog with the clear form of a soccer ball.

Result

The result is a small jumping frog with a soccer-ball surface. The top disc picks up the typical black-and-white pattern of a soccer ball, making the play concept immediately understandable.

Beneath the soccer-ball surface sits a springy plastic part. Pressing with a finger builds up tension. When released, the object jumps forward and can be moved across the table.

It requires no elaborate mechanics, no fixed playing surface, and no complicated rules. Two people, a table, and a small target are enough to make it a playable object.

Background

The game does not thrive on precision, but on the slight unpredictability of the movement. Each press slightly changes the jump direction, height, and distance. That is precisely what creates the appeal of the game.

The design is deliberately pared back. Instead of recreating a complete foosball system, the object focuses on the smallest playable moment: press, let it jump, observe the direction, and try again.
