Waste bin made from spiral-seam duct
A simple waste bin made of industrial metal duct and 3D-printed frame parts.
Starting point
The idea arose from an everyday problem: bin liners that are visibly draped over the rim quickly look untidy. At the same time, there was an unused spiral-seam duct available. From both came the approach to build a functional object that remains technically simple yet looks orderly.
Result
The result is a sturdy waste bin with a clear, pared-down form.
The printed frames enclose the metal duct, protect the edges, and give the object a subdued structure. The narrow inner frame keeps the bin liner neatly taut. The wide cover frame conceals the bag completely.
This preserves the function without the bin liner visually dominating. An everyday utility item becomes an unassuming object that blends discreetly into the room.
The waste bin can be used open or optionally with a lid.
Background
The optional lid is guided by a small printed holder and a shortened 3 mm threaded rod. It opens quietly and stays in position. No spring, no complex mechanism, and no additional hardware are needed—just a small piece of threaded rod.
